  • 16 November 2013: PPPL Postdoc Bei Wang, along with colleagues Dr. Stephane Ethier (PPPL) and Prof. William Tang (Princeton U/PPPL), presented some of the Nu-FuSE work at SC13 in a paper entitled Kinetic Turbulence Simulations at Extreme Scale on Leadership-Class Systems. Further information is available here.
  • 9 November 2013: The radiation damage in steel is well known to be reduced by the addition of nanosized yttria particles, but the exact mechanism was unknown.  In a recent study, published in Journal of Nuclear Materials, Nu-FuSE researchers Jonathan Brodrick, Derek Hepburn, and Graeme Ackland show that point defects (both vacancies and interstitials) are strongly attracted to the Fe-YO interface, where they recombined, eliminating the damage.  An open access version of the paper is available on the open e-print archive arXiv repository here.
  • 31 October 2013: We are helping to organise a "Birds of a Feather" (BoF) session at this year's Supercomputing Conference (SC13) in Denver.  The BoF will bring together the G8 funded Exascale projects and the associated funding agencies to present and discuss the progress projects have made and future funding opportunities in this area.  The BoF, entitled G8 Extreme Scale and Big Data Program: Progress on Current Exascale Projects and Future Funding Opportunities, will be held at 17.30-19.00 on Tuesday 19th November 2013 in rooms 501/502.  Further details are available here.
  • 25 June 2013: Juelich's High-Q Club.  Launched at ISC13, the High-Q club is a list of applications scaling across all 450000 cores of JUQUEEN, Juelich's BlueGene/Q supercomputer.  Two of the five codes on the current list, GYSELA and PEP-C, and fusion codes that are actively under development in Nu-FuSE.  Further details on the High-Q Club and those codes are available here.
  • 20 June 2013: The latest materials simulation work from Nu-FuSE has been accepted for publication.  The paper, entitled "First-principles study of helium, carbon, and nitrogen in austenite, dilute austenitic iron alloys, and nickel", which was authored by D. J. Hepburn, D. Ferguson, S. Gardner and G. J. Ackland, has been accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. B (as outlined here).
  • 25 April 2013: Nu-FuSE will be holding a brief meeting at the ISC13 conference in Leipzig, Germany, on Tuesday June 16th 2013.  The meeting will be held on the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing booth, number 741.
  • 9-11 April 2013: Nu-FuSE is one of the co-sponsors of the EASC2013 conference (Exascale Applications and Software Conference) which will be held in Edinburgh, UK, between 9th-11th April 2013.  Bill Tang, PPPL's Nu-FuSE lead is giving one of the keynote talks at the conference and a number of the Nu-FuSE project partners have had abstracts accepted for presentation during the 3 day event.
